1808 Gift Sampler to Mary Whyman

SMALL-EARLY-19TH-CENTURY-GIFT-SAMPLER-FROM-REBECCA-GIDDINGS-TO-MARY-WHYMAN-1808-381104878280

Sampler embroidered with wool and silk (judging from the gleam on the photographs) on linen. Top is an inscription with two potted flowers: A long farewell since we must part / Receive my fond adieu / Believe me Mary I oft shall sigh / And drop A tear for you. A floral border and then a symmetrical bottom part with trees, flowers, small animals, and an elaborate building on top of a hill, with trees with each its own bird at the side, and a vessel with a flame inside the building.
